Jewish Education - B-Mitzvah

B-Mitzvah is a joyous rite of passage, a time for family and community to celebrate together your child’s becoming a Jewish adult.

Here at Temple Beth Abraham we are excited to help you and your child navigate this exciting life milestone. We are inclusive, welcoming non-Jewish family members, supporting all gender identities, and providing modifications to fit your child’s interests and learning needs. 6th – 7th graders meet weekly to prepare for their B-Mitzvah service and their future as responsible Jewish adults. Curriculum includes:

  • Hebrew prayer – teaches the prayers in the B-Mitzvah service in Hebrew
  • Trope/Cantillation - teaches Torah and Haftorah melodies and chanting
  • Parshanut (Hebrew for “Torah portion”) – teaches students the process for analyzing a Torah portion, and once assigned, they analyze their own portion and begin to craft their D’var Torah (Hebrew for “word of Torah”) or B-Mitzvah speech
  • Prayer composition – explores the meaning of prayer on a deeper level, including both English and Hebrew meanings
  • Moving Traditions – curriculum with interactive family sessions to foster parent/preteen dialogue and connect Jewish rituals to current issues in the lives of family members

Pre and Post B-Mitzvah students meet weekly on Wednesdays @ 4:30 – 6:30 pm.
